Edward Ababio is a distinguished petroleum engineer whose work has been instrumental in the development of Ghana’s oil and gas industry. Over the course of his career, he has contributed significantly to exploration and production activities, particularly during the early stages of Ghana’s journey toward becoming an oil-producing nation.
Edward began his professional career with the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) in 1989, joining the technical team shortly after completing his national service. His expertise and dedication saw him rise through the ranks to become the Reservoir and Production Engineering Manager. He played a pivotal role in the engineering and technical operations that paved the way for major upstream milestones in the country.
Notably, Edward was part of the GNPC team that contributed to the Mahogany-1 exploration well activities, which led to the discovery of oil in commercial quantities in Ghana—the landmark event that resulted in the establishment of the Jubilee Field. His involvement in this achievement earned him public recognition from GNPC during the 10-year commemoration of the discovery in 2007.
Edward holds a Master’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering from the Gubkin Institute of Oil and Gas in Moscow, where he also met his wife, Doris. Born in Efiduase-Koforidua in Ghana’s Eastern Region, he received his early education at Koforidua Experimental School and Koforidua Secondary Technical School (SECTECH), before completing his sixth-form studies at St. Augustine’s College.
He is a committed member of the Ghana Association of Engineers and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). Edward’s career reflects a blend of technical excellence, leadership, and dedication to the advancement of Ghana’s petroleum sector.
